Dear Customer (name blocked for privacy),
Your symptom is one of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS.) Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when a bone, ligament, tendon, or tendon sheath presses against the median nerve in that hand and disrupt that nerve’s function. This pressure on the nerve causes that burning or "hot sensation" of the fingertips as well as tingling, numbness, loss of strength. The thumb, pointer finger and middle finger are affected. Often people who work all day on computers or people who perform repetitive motions of the hand and wrist, such as typing are afflicted with CTS.
CTS can be diagnosed and confirmed by your doctor with a couple of tests. The most common tests are called the "Tinel's Sign" and the "Phalen's Sign. Both tests involve manipulating the hand/wrist to elicit the same types of symptoms that you usually experience (burning/hot sensation.) Treatment for CTS is to reduce the swelling and pressure on the median nerve with the use of splints or braces, anti-inflammatory medications, cortisone injections or surgical repair.
You can start with your general practitioner, then he/she may refer you to a specialist if surgery is needed.
