Hello,
Give it time, it is normal to have poor bladder control one month after surgery. As the months go by, you should notice an improvement.
My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer in August 2004. He had only just turned 50. He went to one of the most respected and well known prostate cancer surgery specialists in the US at UCSF in San Francisco.
He still has to wear a pad every day. He can sometimes go three days at a time with no leakage and other times, he wets at night, or when he bends over to pick up his brief case. It varies day to day.
The urethra carries urine from your bladder, runs through the middle of the prostate gland. In order to remove the prostate, the surgeon must cut the urethra and later reconnect it to the bladder. Evidence shows that the greater the surgeon's experience and skill in making this reconnection, the lower the rate of incontinence.
Some men may require treatment for incontinence after prostatectomy, if urinary leakage continues longer than 1 year.
