Question

Hello, I am having some elective surgery on

Sent to Health Experts October 12, 2006 2:26 p.m.

Hello,
I am having some elective surgery on 10/18. It will take apx. 3 hrs. My question is: I have a Rx for Norco because my back goes out from lifting my little girl who has CP. I haven't taken any for 5 days until last night. I took one without thinking. Will this have any adverse effects with the surgery. 10/325mg. The doctor is in surgery and I can't ask him until tomorrow. In the mean time I am really in a substantial amount of pain. Any advice will be appreciated.

No, it is absolutely fine. If your surgery is in the morning of the 18th, then most often your surgeon will recommend that you have no food or drink after midnight the night before. But if you need too, on the morning of the surgery, you can even take medications (including norco) with small sips of water (but you should speak with your physician about this, and the anesthesiologist who will speak with you prior to surgery).

But up until the night of the 17th, you should be fine to take this medication. It will help relieve your pain, and won't have any adverse effects on the surgery whatsoever.

Hope this helps, and hope the surgery helps your back!
