My mother went to the doctor for flu like symptoms and was told she had pnemonia. She is 58 by the way. When the urgent care person looked at the x-ray, they said, do you realize you have a HUGE hiatal hernia? No, of course she didn't. Then today, she called me and asked me to look up aortic aneurysm because the urgent care followed up to be sure that she contacted her regular doctor because they think she may have one. Can a hiatal hernia and an aortic anuerysm be confused?

Yes, they could, and I highly recommend your mom have more tests to find out for sure what it is. Hiatal Hernia's happen at the top of the stomach and into the esophagus. There is a major portion of the Aorta there in that area as well.

Thanks for your reply. That's a vague answer to a vague question, I guess. More specifically, how likely is it to happen?
