Question

I have a aunt who has had two operations 33 years ago.

Sent to Health Experts February 28, 2006 11:55 a.m.

I have a aunt who has had two operations 33 years ago. And has over the years been portraying mentally ill episodes. She has driven her mother into a dementia bound state now and as she progresses with age my aunt has been twisting things up as well as been talking to herself, having fits of rage, making symptoms up at the doctors office fits of what I believe is paranoia and now she has been threatening family members. What should I do to prevent her or anyone from injuring her? I would like to commit her because it has become to much for me to handle and helping my grandmother who has been diagnosised with Dementia alzheimers is not a picnic but I can handle that it's my aunt I can't deal with. So please help me I really don't know what else to do?

many times it is hard to see the ones you love fall to a state that is totaly confusing to the rest of us. Does she have capacity to make her own desicions? have you tried a priviate duty aide? I work as a multitude of nursing ( med/surg/ice/er/pcu/tele/geriatices) and it is hard for families to make choices, however it is for the patient saftey,

have you tried adult day care?
