then what can cause the increase in pressure in the sulci and ventricles or as you said intracranial tension? i was 55 when the mri was taken. i never had problems with my memory before it's all short term and math difficulties and i have to think to answer peoples questions. i am slow to answer and get confused easily. i did have a upper right lobectomy in 2002 and since then i have had problems, but so far the cancer is still gone. my wife thinks i have been different since the surgery. i did not know i had a problem till later. that is why i asked about the oxygen. could i have not got enough under anesthesia? could i have had a stroke? i had at the time of surgery high blood pressure and cholestorol controlled with medicine. i was also a smoker although i have since then quit. Dear Deb,
While it is difficult to be precise, I would feel that your MRI changes and symptoms are suggestive of cerebral atrophy. This could be the result of the smoking/ blood pressure/ cholesterol induced decreased blood flow (ischemia) to the brains, if no other problem has been detected in your MRI.
Qutting smoking has been the right step, since studies have shown that this is reversible to some extent.
Dementia too is associated with changes of cerebral atrophy. IF the symptoms did not begin immediately after the lobectomy, then I do not think that there is any connection between these two conditions (dementia & surgery),
Please remember to accept the reply if you find it useful. A BONUS and a positive rating would be duly appreciated,
regards
Dr. Gupta

Reply to Gaurav Gupta's Post: my family said it did start after after the surgery thats why we don't understand what happened to me. my boss and co-workers told my wife she and my kids and friends didn't say anything to me for awhile because the doctor told her it could be depression.
