My son is 6 weeks old and after visiting a friend (who happens to be a nurse) she suggested that I have him checked out because of his rapid breathing (he averages around 65 breaths a minute). After four hours in the emergency room, multiple chest x-rays, blood work, and two doctors, they said that everything checked out fine and that he had tachypnea of the newborn. All of the info I can find on the internet says that tachypnea only lasts the first week of life. Should I get a scond opinion? He weighed 8-4 at birth and is up to 11pds at 6 weeks and has no other symptoms (no flaring nostrils or caveing chest).
