My daughter is 23 months and the past 3 days she was ...

Sent to Health Experts March 25, 2006 7:08 p.m.

My daughter is 23 months and the past 3 days she was completely changed her behavior. Shes always been a very active child, running around the house, dancing, talking constantly, and happy. But lately shes been crying over everything, mopey, started having trouble sleeping, I can hear her cry out in the night but when I check on her shes still sleeping, she does this all night. Shes really tired during the day and can't sleep well, she lays on the floor or where ever I go. I had post partum depression awhile ago and have been better for a few weeks. I'm not sure if this is just a late sign of her suffering from that to because I'm a stay at home mom or if something may be wrong w/ her. I'm really worried about it and not really sure what to do and the drs are closed.

You've checked to make sure she didn't get into anything like medicine, alcohol, and there are no drugs present? Everything she has eaten has been ok and cooked well? And she doesn't have any swelling, drooling, or whelps on her (like a possible spider bite)?

If all this is negative...then I would have her checked by a doctor for ear infection. Often, it can take days or weeks for conclusive symptoms to appear, while the child will be listless, may tug at an ear or ears, there will be pain, possibly the child will appear like they have loss of balance, may or may not have fever, and be generally unhappy or worse.

Until you see the doctor, try a proper dosage of a 'Tylenol' type product and try to get her to point to whatever hurts if she can.

I forgot to mention that shes been eating less and less. Whenever we ask her to eat or give her something to eat she cries. I noticed also whenever she lies down its on her stomach. If shes in the rocker she'll curl up in the fetal position and hold her stomach. she never says if anything hurts or points. She has no motivation, enery, or intrest in anything. Now shes down to barely drinking liquids. I watched everything that she was drinking and she only drank a cup(6-8oz) if that all day of water. Normally she does 3-4. Last night she had a temp of 100.2 but it went away after we gave her tylenol. Everyday it seems to be adding a new symptom.

Well then...have you taken her to the doctor yet? It still sounds like it MIGHT be an ear infection...(low grade fever/dehydration/improvement with tylenol). You must get her to the doctor for treament dear.

Is dad at home? Boyfriend? Why not take her to the doctor tomorrow?

I took her to the doctor this morning and they tested her for a urinary tract infection, but they think shes fine. They said that shes constipated really bad and that was causing all the symptoms.
