Symptoms - nausea, headaches, exhaustion, muscle ...

Sent to Health Experts April 02 08:00 PM

Symptoms - nausea, headaches, exhaustion, muscle weakness/exhaustion, body aches, occasional dizziness, light headedness, loss of appetite. This has been off and on for about 5 years. I'll go months and be fine and then one day (such as last Friday) it'll just HIT me and I'll feel like I can barely stand up I'm so drained and I need to sit/lay down right where I am. Suddenly the nausea and exhaustion and all will come rushing back at once. It will go on for a while (days, weeks, months even) and then go away for a while. Been to the doctor numerous times and no conclusion.   Please help!

Optional Information:
Female , Age: 24

Already Tried:
Had colonoscopy, CT head, CT abdomen. Nothing wrong found. Was diagnosed with Mono last summer - don't know if it's a possibility that's just recurring? Diagnosed with IBS, don't know if that has anything to do with it... Usually I just sleep as much as possible, try to make myself eat when I'm not nauseaus, take pain relievers for the headaches and fenergen for the nausea. I pretty much have to push through it and hope it goes away sooner than later.

Reply to Christy Hammond's Post: I have actually researched my symptoms online as much as I know how and considered chronic fatigue a possibility, but it just seems like such a big thing...

I actually only take phenergen at night or when I know I am able to rest in bed for a while, but nothing else seems to get rid of the nausea. Anything that might give me some relief, say, while I'm at work and can't take phenergen?

I have seen a couple different general practitioners and was referred to one gastroenterologist (I have no idea if I spelled that right) over the past few years for it.

I can explain a little better a couple of things that might help you...

1) If I make sudden changes such as standing up from laying down or squatting, it feels like the blood rushes to my head and it starts pounding (along with feeling lightheaded as I mentioned).

2) I don't know if this makes sense or not, but it almost feels like my muscles aren't getting enough oxygen or something - they feel weak and exhausted.

3) No matter how much I sleep, I'm still fatigued physically and mentally. (as well as nauseous and with headache!) I don't think I mentioned the mental exhaustion, but for example I had a really hard time concentrating at work today.

4) The biggest cause for concern to me is that I can be anywhere anytime and all of a sudden I feel faint and lightheaded and weak, like I'm gonna pass out or something and have to lay/sit down. Never actually fainted (or thrown up, for that matter), but feel like I'm going to!

Hope this extra info. helped and isn't just rambling! Thank you so much for your quick and helpful response...I'm hopeful that you can help me and very grateful!

No, you aren't rambling at all. Your concerns seem very on point and real. I would like to do a little research, but I see a pattern here that suggests just what you describe, a sort of oxygen deficit. I have some resources to look at, but I have to say you will need to see a general practitioner, and have some tests.

I don't know if they tested for anemia, but I will say I have had every symptom you describe based on an ideopathic anemia from which I've suffered for 3-4 years. Normally I would try not to use a personal experience to form an answer, but the mental exhaustion combined with everything else just sounds so familiar. The nausea, headache and diareah, and orthostatic hypotension (dizzy when you stand) are all more common to anemia than most are aware. Anemia is a chronic lack of oxygen transport to every muscle and organ, including stomach, brain, intestine etc. I'd always seen anemia as having very specific causes in my patients. Then my Hgb came back below 6 and there was no cause found. This has become a pattern and no cause ever found.

The danger with using my experience and applying it to your symptoms is tunnel vision, and I feel only a Dr. with access to a lab can give you a final answer.

Ginger is a natural anti emetic you can use as a supplement, and for some otc Drammamine helps. There are Anti-emetics the Doctor can prescribe with less sedative effects than Phenergan.

It sounds like a journal of your symptoms that you can present to your Doctor is a good idea, for the purpose of communicating it's seriousness, and organizing some more aggressive testing.

I really hope you are able to find relief soon. I will probably reply or pm you with more information if I find anything else that may help relieve your symptoms. Also, when you have a diagnosis please contact me by pm, and I will be happy to provide information on treatments, etc. (As a follow up-instead of re-posting and paying again)

I hope my answer is helpful. If you have more questions, just ask! I am happy to help. If not, please click "accept" so I may receive credit for my work.
