What symptoms would bulging disks in the lower back cause?

You could have local pain and tenderness, or you could have pain extending down one or both legs. Depending on where in your lower back the bulging discs are, you could also experience bowel or bladder symptoms if the spinal nerves dealing with that part of your body are affected.

Typically the pain is sharp, shooting type pain, although it can be dull or throbbing.

Jean, mayb I should have been more thorough w/my ?. The bulging disk are L3 & L4. it seemed to begin w/siatic in my right buttock then went to my left buttock as well as pain moving kind of across the top of my buttocks then around the hips. As it progressed, I began to have some pain in my groin area, from left to rght or vice versa. Also, I have pain on the sides of my knees, like nerve pain, that is the sides of the front of my knees. Also, sometimes, some shin splint pain. I also have moderate arthritis in both hips. Thank you, Barbara
