I have just had a severe case of vertigo. I have had an MRI which was negative and I am scheduled for an audiology exam on May 5th. I am now in second week and am better in the day time but when I lay down to go to sleep I cannot lay on my right side or the room starts spinning. I also have ringing in my ears and both ears feel full. Why does this spinning happen only when I lay on my right side?

Optional Information:
Female , Age: 700

Already Tried:
Meclazine and had an MRI

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Your symptoms are classically suggestive of a condition called BENIGN PAROXYSMAL POSITIONAL VERTIGO (BPPV). THe symptoms of vertigo in this condition occur more on lying down and commonly are more on the affected side. MRI would be negative, and the condition is treated with simple exercises that are very effective..

Before I had the first episode of vertigo, I had had a sore neck on both sides for about two to three weeks before, which I thought was arthritis, and started taking two advil tablets a couple of times a day. Then about one week before the vertigo happened I had sores in the roof of my mouth. I was not feeling very good and went to the doctors. At that time he thought my tonsils looked red and swollen and he put me on Keflex. Two days later I had my first episode of vertigo. The doctor then took me off the Keflex and put me on Levaquin and suggested that I see an ENT. Do you think the sores in my mouth were a virus that started this. My mouth was so sore I couldn't eat anything hot or anything hard for about one week. That problem has now subsided but I still have the sore neck, especially if I try to turn my head to one side or the other.
