Are you nauseated, vomitting, running a fever?

Does the pain worsen with breath or movement?

Is it sharp, dull, radiating or cause shortness of breath?

Do you take any meds, or have signif health history?

So many structure come together at that point that diagnosis, even with a personal visit can be tricky.

Since it is painful, but not interupting breathing, and worse with movement, it may be an injury to the cartilage, muscle or ligaments that make up this area.

A change in sympmtoms such as fever, nausea, vomitting, shortness of breath etc can indicate conditions like pleurisy, surgical adhesions, or even gall stones left in a common duct after your cholycystectomy.

Also, women of any age need to be sensitive to the risk of cardiac disease which very often presents different in women than the standard chest/arm pain etc.

Start by taking Ibuprofen 400 mg every 4-6 hours regardless of pain level. As an anti-inflammatory, this will begin to address a soft tissue injury if this is the problem.

Hold ice for 15 minutes to the effected area for 48 hours, then begin alternating heat and ice.

Do not lift or strain until pain is gone for at least a day.

Take a warm bath daily in Epsom salts.

If you feel you are or have been constipated use a non stimulant laxative and dring 32 oz of water a day.

If you are not improving within 24-48 hours with intervention you should call your Doctor for an exam, and possible stronger anti-inflammatory/muscle relaxer treatment. He will likely do some xrays, lab work and an ekg. (At least your yearly physical will be out of the way!)

If you have any of the acute symptoms I mentioned you should seek emergency treatment.

Good luck, hope you feel better.
