Reply to Judy's Post: I'm not really sure. Over a period of a couple of months his cheek started swelling and its puffy on the inside. Now it is also bruised and I catch him biting on the inside of it, could that have caused this.

Reply to Christy Hammond's Post: The inside is a little swollen as well as the outside. The outside is also bruised and has been since Feburary. There is no redness on his face though.

Reply to Christy Hammond's Post: He does have a new baby sister now. He also says that he is scared of the dark. Is this something that he will just have to out grow because he is constantly chewing or biting on it.

This is not an uncommon reaction, and is a coping mechanism that he will give up as he begins to feel more secure about his place in the family. Keep the areas clean, and continue to integrate him into the care of his new sis and reassure him of his role and importance to the family. Don't punish, but you may try positive reinforcement (a reward like extra story time, or a sticker) when he controls the impulse.

If it continues more than several months or the injuries worsen, call his Doctor.

Also have a dental checkup done asap in case he has issues with his molars or a type of TMJ.

Good luck to you all.
