Hello, I am a bit worried here and want some insight. I was having my period as I usually do and it went on for the usual 5 days or so and I noticed that I still was getting blood for a few days longer....not a lot...just enough to be concerned. I figured that my period wanted to go on a little longer and I tried not to worry too much but then it kept going on for a bit too long so I assumed I had some kind of vaginal infection and I better make an appointment with my GYN. I guess I let it go on too long. The blood after my period went on for about 10 days now. Today, I thought that maybe it is a urinary tract infection and not a vaginal infection after all. It was just a feeling I got. I started having a little trouble urinating and it felt like urinary infections I got in the past but when I got those in the past, blood did not accompany it. Well, today I decided to forget the GYN and go to an emergency room tomorrow because I think the problem is urinary as the vaginal area was burining and it was hard to urinate. I am at a realtive's house who happened to have some kind of cranberry juice in the refrigerator. I had a glass and I could feel something happening in there and immediately had to urinate and did so without pain or burning this time but I have this constant need to urinate but can't seem to do so easily. What does this sound like? Does this sound like a simple urinary infection or something more serious? Do you have any ideas on what I can do for comfort until I can get some antiobiotics from a doctor?...Carla

Optional Information:

Hi,
Thanks for requesting for me..
It does seem like a UTI. I am a bit mystified about the prolonged period too, was there any bleeding during urination too?
The only other likley possibility is a renal stone that can present with similar symptoms, and a visit to the doctor/ ER should be helpful in ruling it out,

It is so hard to know what is going on without them sending you all over for all kinds of tests...I want to clarify something about the blood...I don't think it was a prolonged period. I think I may have got some kind of infection right after my period that made it seem like a prolonged period. Yes, I have been getting blood when I wipe for 10 days now... I have gotten vaginal infections before but never had all this blood. I think the blood has something to do with an infection. What is a renal stone? I want to add that I have been getting blood when I wipe my behind too...I just assumed it was hemmeroids. I do have hemmeroids and I do wipe too hard at times...It is so hard to know what is going on...Carla

Dear Carla,
I understand your anxiety, however without a specific examination and maybe a few tests it would be impossible to get to a diagnosis with the symptoms listed.
A UTI and stones are possible, but they do not explain each and every symptom. IF you have bleeding during defecation then obviously hemorrhoids do become a factor too!
I would urge an urgent evaluation for starting treatment till the test results come in,

One more thing..I would have went to a doctor a lot sooner. I have a transportantioin problem. I am going to do something about this today. Instead of going to an emergency room, would a gynacologist be okay to set up an appointment with? Carla

If you can get an early appointment that may be alright, rather than waiting in line at the ER,
