Lower your salt intake, (watch what foods you eat that are high in sodium) don't drink soda pop, drink more water which will actually flush your system as well. Coffee is a natural diuretic as well. Elevate your feet as often as possible. There are also stocking you can purchase that will help compress the fluid back into the veins to be flushed out by the kidneys, so you may want to try those as well.

Here are a couple of sites you may find helpful which give the sodium mg.

My name is Steve. I also answer Health Questions here at JustAnswer. I would like to answer your follow-up question and add to the excellent advice that was previously given to you by my colleague.

You are to be commended for wanting to find natural strategies/remedies for dealing with your swelling (edema) problem.

I recommend that you try Grape Seed Extract -- it was recently recommended to me, for my foot/ankle swelling. I have only been taking it for a short time, but I have noticed some improvement. As an added bonus, it is a very powerful antioxidant.

In addition to the diet/lifestyle recommendations previously given to you by my colleague, Lindie -- I recommend that you eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables -- especially things which have a high water content such as watermelon and other melons. Go easy on red meat in favor of fish and chicken.

Moderate exercise (such as walking) will stimulate your kidneys. In addition, the muscle activity in your legs will help to reduce the edema.

Keep in mind that edema subsides much slower than it comes on -- and that no one remedy/treatment/lifestyle change is likely to take care of the entire problem.

Also keep in mind that -- if the above strategies do not bring about improvement -- or if your symptoms get worse, you should consult your doctor.

Click any above Link(s) for additional information.

Let me know if you need more input. If not, thanks for the opportunity to assist you... Please honor my efforts by Clicking the green 'Accept' button (located within this post -- above-right). Adding a bonus -- should you wish to do so -- would be warmly welcomed.

Good Luck!
