Once every couple months or so I get a day or two where my skin aches all over and my muscles--mainly my thighs and back-- ache as well, and generally just don't feel well and have to lay down for a day. What do you suppose this is?

Have you been checked for the Epstein Barr Virus? This would have been through blood work.

I would suggest getting checked for Epstein Bar Virus. It is a prerequisite to chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. You are young to have this but it is not uncommon in younger people. I have included links for you to go over.

Fibromyalgia fits your symptoms very closely. A Rhematologist can verify if you have it.
