Question

A month ago I woke one morning with severe knee

Sent to Health Experts July 04, 2006 6:17 p.m.

A month ago I woke one morning with severe knee pain that lasted about 2 weeks. I then woke up and it was gone. But, the pain moved down to my ankles, the back of my calves and across the tops of my toes. To move is very painful and walking and climbing stairs is not very good either. I also have gotten hard bumps on the lower part of my legs, below the knee and on the knee and along the bone . I haven't done anything different in my lifestyle to make these things apprear over night. Help?

You have no pre-exsisting conditions? You have any change in temperature of the legs? Any new meds?

No new meds. I have taken Ortho Evra for awhile now. No change in temp of my legs and no pre-exsisting condition.

Good Evening,

Ortho Evra as you know contains estrogen, actually a lot of it. I believe its about 60% more in the patch than in the actual pill. Estrogen affects the joints of the body by softening the ligaments, most particularly the ACL. It would be okay but, when ligaments are a little too soft, they are too stretchy and can cause injury to the joint from the lack of protection. The slightest wrong move at the wrong time may have injured your knee a bit. Usually, rest is the best way to heal an injury like this. Although, if the pain still persists after you keep of the joint or have any other symptoms like loss of range of motion, you will want to go to the doctor to get an MRI to check for any tears.

As far as the nodules you are feeling, what do they look like to you? Did they show up at the same time as the pain?

They are hard red and sore. The did show up with the pain. On of them is 1 1/2 in diameter. The rest aren't as big.
