Reply to haloprecious's Post: My child has severe abdominal pain and vomiting and diarrhea. There has been blood in her stool. There was also an ulcer in the colon that was healing. I don't really know what you mean by characteristics of the nodules but on the picture they are small and white in appearance. She also has ulcers on her tongue and her whole GI tract was inflammed. If you have any other questions I will try and answer. Thank you.

Relist: No answer yet. She has been vomiting with diarrhea for about 8 weeks. 5 weeks ago she had severe pain in right lower quadrant with a bp of 142/92 (she had vomiting and diarrhea also ) because of pain seen in er and then sent home. She has had a stool study looking for bacteria and parasites and both were negative. She had a high sed rate and high white count. She has been tested for celiac disease which came back negative. She had biopsies of nodules and healing ulcer in colon and came back negative. No crohn's or celiac. Her stomache cramps everytime she eats and she wakes up nauseated every morning. I want to know if it could be crohn's in the small intestine where they haven't looked. Could ibs cause all of these symptoms or gastritis. And if it could be gastritis would they have seen reflux while they were doing the endoscopy of esophagus. Please someone answer.

Hello Ma'am,sorry for not having replied earlier.
The symptoms that you mention
-bloody diarrhea
-pain in right lower quadrant
-high white cell count
-abdominal pain on eating which has been described as "food fear"
-sores in the mouth
these are found in Crohn's disease.
Crohn's disease sometimes has inflammation all over the GI tract as you mentioned.

You can refer to these sites for more information on Crohn's
http://www.umm.edu/digest/ibdcro1.htm
http://www.merck.com/mmhe/sec09/ch126/ch126b.html#sec09-ch126-ch126b-532
http://www.badgut.com/index.php?contentFile=ibd_index&title=Inflammatory%20Bowel%20Disease

However, other conditions which could lead to such
presentation are :
-appendicitis
because of diarrhoea, vomiting, high white cell count, lump in right lower quadrant.
-Tuberculosis of the intestine/hyperplastic tuberculosis
lump, diarrhoea
-Typhoid Fever
because of diarrhoea, fever and abdominal cramps
-polyps
bloody diarrhoea, abdominal pain
but they would be detected in endoscopy and more associated with large intestine.

Primarily though I suspect crohn's the most.
It runs in the families so if anyone in your family suffered from the disease, the diagnosis would point more towards it.

Some more facts about Crohn's
*It is most commonly found in North America and Northern Europe
*More common in females
*Most commonly diagnosed in young patients between   25-40 years though lately it is being seen with increasing incidence around the age of 17.
*Ileum is the most common site for crohn's to occur accounting for about 60% of all cases.
*Crohn's also shows low red cell count or anemia.

Though there is abdominal pain and diarrhoea associated with IBS,but bloody diarrhoea is usually not seen in IBS

You can also refer to this page to know the factors which worsen IBS

I hope you find this information beneficial
In alternative healing methods you could also try reiki.I have seen many people benefitting from Reiki. It can be continued along with the conventional treatment.Though I would not advise to depend totally on it.
