Hello, I have recently developed some symptoms that concern me. I am feeling skin irritation around my back and chest. The skin hurts to touch even shirts irritate the skin. It feels similar to a sunburn. There is no skin discoloration or any visible evidence of anything wrong. Also lately both of my arms have been going numb for no appearant reason. I am a 38 year old male who takes Lipitor 20mg daily for elevated cholesterol problems.   What do you think is the problem and shoud I alert my family physician?

Reply to Dr AMIT MUNJAL's Post: NO tingling and it is only located along the back of my arms down to my smallest fingers. My hands, index and middle fingers are not numb.

No history of cervical spondylosis that I am aware of.

Reply to Dr AMIT MUNJAL's Post: I used some "Bengay" Muscle rub for sore muscles in my back about 2 or 3 days ago but I didn't put any on my chest and I have never had a reaction to it before. The skin irritation started about 2 days ago.

I do not use cosmetics or other skin care products.

Reply to Dr AMIT MUNJAL's Post: I cut my grass in the sun last week and got overheated. And I used sunscreen SPF 50 Sun Block. No exposure to any chimicals that I am aware of. The sunblock is the same brand that I have been using for years.

Hello

From your history this can be diagnosed as Photoallergic dermatitis.Photoallergic reactions result from new allergens created by the photochemical reaction of UV on certain chemicals and body proteins. The new allergens stimulate an allergic "immune" response which causes a skin reaction similar to that of allergic contact dermatitis.
