I'm so sorry to hear of your discomfort.

Since it has been 5 days since you began the permethrin without any results, I'm thinking at this point that you might be suffering from something besides scabies - perhaps atopic dermatitis (eczema). This can cause swelling, redness, and intense itching on the face that can lead to crusting and other skin changes. Hydrocortisone, however, will also often help eczema, and the fact that things aren't getting any better might suggest that something else is responsible.

At this point, you need to be seen by a physician. I understand that not having health insurance can make this very tough (I've been there before myself), but your symptoms aren't getting any better and require a physician to see you, examine you, and run the appropriate tests. Then, you will have a much better chance of getting the treatment that you require. You might require the input of a specialist (dermatologist).

If necessary, you can go to the emergency room in your local area. Many ERs have funds available to provide treatment to people without the means to pay or insurance. So your bills could be forgiven. But you should not continue to suffer without treatment.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions - I'm more than happy to help.

Take care - Doctor Fay

Reply to Jon Fay's Post: Doctor Fay,

If it could be eczema wouldnt my skin be dry? and wouldnt I have dry flakes of skin on my face and a red rash? If so I dont have any of these.

When I take a hot/warm shower the itching spread to my arms and chest as well, this is why I thought I had scabies.

Also I was told to do only one treatment with permethrin. I treated my whole body once and I have treated my face/cheeks and ears two additional time and its not helping. could it be nerves????
