Question

A continual warm, sore, numb sensation on my leg.

Sent to Health Experts August 26, 2006 4:25 p.m.

I have a numbing sensation the size of a hand on my right leg. The same spot where the right hand pant pocket would cover. It is also the same spot where I always kept my
bunch of keys, in my pocket for many years. Can this numbness come from the metal that might have leached from my keys, through my pocket, and onto my legs all these years? I don't recall any recent injury to my body and spine. The area is sore and warm to the touch. Question....what is causing this condition? It has been over a month. Also, it seems to just "grow" in the area it feels numb. I am an Asian Male, age 46. The appearance of my leg looks normal with no discoloration.

Optional Information:
Male , Age: 46

Already Tried:
Nothing, I was thinking about accupuncture. Could it be cancer?

Hi

Youu are describing loss of funtion of a single nerve.

Lots of possible causes.

Diabetes
Vitamin deficiency
Nerve entrapment
etc

If this has been present for some months you need to see your Dr.

The nerve in question is the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve.

The symptoms are not suggestive of cancer but I would not expect them to be related to your keys.

Dr. Al,

Thanks for the info. The obvious question... what can I do? What type of test will my doctor give me? Will an xray be necessary?

Thanks,

Larry
