Hello,
The hip joint is a very strong joint, not easily dislocated. You will need to have a bad fall or trauma or accident for dislocation to occur. even then a fracture of the femur (thigh bone) is more likely than a dislocation.
Ocasionally hip dislocation occurs when the head of the femur has been eroded by diseases like cancer : when there is previous hip replacement surgery : when the leg is twisted in such a way as to cause the head of the femur to slip out of its binding ligaments .
If you think you have dislocation, you will have the following symptoms:
-Severe pain over the hip joint, sometimes also over the thigh and back.
- You will not be able to walk
- When sitting or lying down, the leg will automatically roll outside so that your toes point to the side rather than up. This is the most diagnostic point of hip dislocation.
- An Xray will show that the head of the femur is lying outside the socket of the hip bone.
Please get a check up with an orthopedist (bone doctor) for a diagnosis. If the hip is realy dislocated, you need to be treated within 6 hours to prevent loss of blood supply to the head of the femur.
I hope this helps.
