My 13 yr old daughter is unable to smile on one side of her face and has a problem closing the eye on the same side of her face if you ask her.(she cant wink with that eye) But there is no problem closing both eyes at the same time.
There is no muscle weakness as far as we can tell. We had her squeeze our finger with one hand at a time and we had her sit on a chair and push up against our hand with her legs one at a time. There didn't seem to be any pressure difference in either, with both being strong.
She doesnt have any complaints of any kind of pain, including headaches, toothache, or earache.
She is extremly shy.
Any ideas of what this could be.

Reply to Alexander Irvine's Post: We just noticed it recently. She can raise both eyebrows at the same time.

Reply to Alexander Irvine's Post: We have been keeping any eye on her, trying to do so without her notice.

It is not a permanant smile, it seems to be only when she is nervous or excited.

But it is just the right side that pulls back into the smile.

Hi

I think that you suspect this is a symptom of an emotional problem?

I have to say that from your decription I do concur.

Is she under any undue stress at the present time?
Have you discussed any worries she may have?

Reply to Alexander Irvine's Post: We have talked to her and she says there is nothing bothering her. However, her father has a medical condition that worries everyone.

She does have trouble with her reading also and I know this bothers her.

And of course, she is a teenager.

I can understand that.

You do need your Dr to do a physical exam.
I expect it to be normal.

I suspect she is anxious/stressed/worried - all quite normal but manifesting with these physical symptoms you have observed.

She may require some input from a counsellor ( or similar professional.)
