Has there been any reported incidents of difficulty breathing after taking Zyprexa Zydis? I became very sick after being given this drug in April 2001. I live in Canada and there is a Class Action Suit Against Eli-Lilly in regards to those that developed blood sugar disorders; therefore I do not seem to qualify. Am looking for others who may have experienced similar side effects. Other side effects included waking up night after night feeling like I was stopping breathing or anytime I needed to rest, my body jerking at night, forms of sleep paralysis, Gasping for breath while awake at times, developing acid reflux and vomiting so much my esophageus has become irritated. These are very serious side effects as far as I'm concerned and wonder if legal action should be taken or would be considered appropriate. I am currently awaiting the results of pulmonary function testing and waiting for a sleep study to be tested for sleep apnea. Thank you.

I became very ill after being given the drug zyprexa. I started having difficulty with my breathing, shortness of breath and feeling like I was not getting enough oxygen into my lungs. It then went on to my developing acid reflux, tightness in chest and throat constantly vomiting, waking up at night gasping for breath or anytime I needed to rest which was most of the time as I could not function physically or mentally for approximately the past 5 years. Am doing somewhat better after several attempts of others meds. I also experienced my body jerking while falling asleep and forms of sleep paralysis and night terrors. I am wondering if there are other's who may have experienced these extreme side effects particularly in Canada as that is where I'm from and if I should seek legal action against Eli Lilly and Co. over the damage this drug has done to my health. There currently is a Class Action Law Suit agains the company for those who developed diabetes and other sugar related disorders which I have not so it seems from any lawyer I've contacted online that I do not meet the critera to join the suit. Any assistance or advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am sorry for the long delay in your question being answered. I have just now myself seen it. Yes, there are reported case's but only from an overdose. But then again each person may overdose with one tab. I am giving you the info that I have. This is all I see and no litigation on it in regards to breathing. Just the mention of it in overdose.

Overdoses of Zyprexa have also led to breathing difficulties, changes in blood pressure, excessive perspiration, fever, muscle rigidity, cardiac arrest, coma, and convulsions.

From the list of problems associated with this med it sounds to be a really nasty one for side effects. Many of the other symptoms you mention are described as side effects. I would stop taking this if not already. But do so with your doctors approval.

Reply to 4ren6's Post: I just had one more question as to whether legal action would be of any benefit or have any productive results. I did stop taking the zyprexa a few months after and was subsequently put on seroquel with none of the symptoms resloving. I was on effexor in both of these instances. It was not until last fall when I saw an emergency room doctor that he chaged everything and put me on risperdal and zoloft and clonazepam. Then the pressure started to relieve from my back and the risperdal and clonazepam together are the only thing that make me not wake up feeling like I can't breath. However; I am still experiencing shortness of breath and awaing the test results from pulmonary function testing and awaiting an appointment for sleep apnea testing. Just wondering if you could answer that question and any other light you might be able to she upon my situation. Thank you very much.

Ok, getting you on the meds your on now are the best for your condition. You may also have COPD if your a smoker. You may also suffer from anxiety attacks which can cause the breathing problems as well. But the first meds you were on do have the side effects of breathing difficulty. Legal action at this point would not have any benefit. Hold tight to your med prescriptions and see how you continue to do and if any future class actions suits are filed on breathing problems. It sounds really as though you may have a pulmonary situation yet diagnosed. Again, I am sorry for the delays in your question being answered. We have been quite busy.
