A perforation, or a hole in the eardrum will generally result in acute, severe pain sometimes followed by bleeding from the ear, hearing loss, and a noise or ringing in the ear. Hearing loss based on injury to the ossicles or the inner ear. Injury to the inner ear may also cause vertigo or dizziness, imbalance and nausea. Pus may begin to drain from the ear in 24 to 48 hours, especially if water or other foreign material enters the middle ear through perforation, or injury results from infection.
Rupture should be evaluated by a Physician, especially if no antibiotic therapy is in place. Oral and Otic antibiotics preparations may be used, and the membrane will heal. In the tear does not heal within two months, manual repair is considered to prevent long term or smoldering infection of the ear.
