Parasite?

Sent to Health Experts September 4 2006 at 4:36 PM

I have noticed two worm like things about an inch long that passed in my urine. They a clear and both of them the same shape. There very small in diameter tapering narrower on one end and on the other end sort of ball shaped. I've searched everywhere looking for an answer as to what type of parasite this could be. Can you help?

Hello,

It would have been good to retreive it from the toilet, place in a jar and bring it to the doctor to be sent to the lab for an accurate determination and diagnosis as to what this was.

Did it look like this? Normally, these parasites are seen in feces.

Reply to Deborah's Post: Well I took a picture of it... but it's clear not white like that picture link you asked. And the fact that I got two of them to confirm it wasn't something else is what startles me. I have no symptoms at all. Also I have another question since I accidentally clicked to donate twice somehow... Anyway what do you think about those colon cleansing supplements? Are there any risks? Are you for or against it?

Regarding the urine, I would definitely show the picture to a urologist and have a urine culture performed as a precaution.

In relation to colon cleansers. They are a waste of money, unnecessary and potentially dangerous.

There is no medical reason whatsoever to use one of these products. The kidneys, liver and colon are naturally designed to eliminate all waste from the body.

The FDA does not monitor or regulate these products as to what ingredients these products contain. They can upset the delicate balance of the colon, cause severe diarrhea, dehydration and other problems.

If you wish to do something good for your colon and digestive symptom, buy some Dannon Activia which contains probiotics which are a healthly and natural alternative to a colon cleanser.

Many people believe that undigested meat and other debris is left in the stomach and colon undigested. I can tell you for a fact this this in untrue having worked in the OR with colorectal surgeons and having given anesthesia to more than 1,000 patients during their colonoscopies both prepped and non-prepped.

Reply to Deborah's Post: Would you recommend I monitor it for awhile longer to see if i get anymore? Also, Is it something potentially more cautious to be concerned about if they where in urine versus feces? What is a urologist and how do I get in touch with one? And would it be okay to wait on seeing a urologist if I determine they stop and I don't ever develop symptoms.

Normally, parasites are in feces.

A urologist is a doctor that specializes in the urinary tract (kidneys and bladder) I don't see this as urgent as you do not have any symptoms such a pain or blood in your urine.

I would monitor the situation, perhaps get a large disposable cup and urinate in it a few times to see if you see this again. If so, bring it to the doctor.

If you give me your zipcode, I can give you a list of urologists.
