Need help. I have a real worry about whats been happening lately, First i have had a stroke last year,IBS, reflux, fibromyalgia and pacemaker .
I know what regular reflux is but this is quite differnt. I have been getting very nauseau and a terrible feeling in the pit of my stomach sometimes its like really bad hnger pains. After the nauseau begins I start feeling very bad, weak then i feel like a hair or fleam or something is caughte in my throat I wither try to clear my throat or I start coughin eithe rone leads to me gagging or choking and gasping for air. Its horrifying I wind up vomiting and becoming so weak and sick for hours. It continues all in the same order for hours neve rjust one episode. Last time lasted 3 days and went away for a couple weeks. I can't stand smell of food or even eat.
my gastro doctor is out of town and i just not sure whats causing it an dis it i more deeper reflux than i ever experience. COuld use in suggestions at all. thanls so much..

Marie,

Your hunger pang-like sensations and nausea may indicate the presence of a peptic ulcer -- the symptoms may, in turn, be bringing on severe esophageal reflux symptoms.

If your symptoms continue to be severe I strongly advise that have a doctor evaluate you as soon as possible -- even if it means seeing a different gastroenterologist.

Since it will involve looking at 'the other end of things' -- a colonoscopy should not stir up your current symptoms. However, since you will have to 'clear out' and go without eating or drinking the night before -- your empty stomach may bring on symptoms.

If you have not already done so, you should probably check with the doctor who is doing the colonoscopy to see what, if any, medications you should/can take if your symptoms act up during the fasting period before your test.

I hope that the testing leads to an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.

Marie,

Thank you for getting back.

If I understand you correctly, the doctor found nothing that was a 'biopsy-able' during your colonoscopy. As a result, your doctor needs to find another explanation for your symptoms. Without knowing exactly what he said do you after the test, it is impossible to be specific about what is suspected -- but, apparently, your doctor believes that you may have some sort of blood-related (a.k.a. hematology) problem. That is why you are being referred to a hematologist.

This may actually be good news -- for example, it is possible that your stroke was the result of some sort of blood/clotting-related problem. If that were true, and the problem can be uncovered and treated, your risk of another stroke would be reduced.

Reply to Steve -- a.k.a. Oreport's Post: Thanks for trying to understand me i know its hard. I went to the hematologist today. He decided to wait on drawing blood he wanted first to get the biopsy;s rsult of what they removed during colomscopy. Also he wnated to look at all the test that was done when I had a stroke because alot of what he would do already might have been done. He also said he wanted me off premarin and put of Exxefor. I have bad hot flashes. Hard to explain why he did that. He was very nice and undertsandable unlike others. He is going to check my records and my gastro doctor this week and i go back next wedneday. I definetly appreciate all the help so much. thanks.
