Bruising of fingers

Sent to Health Experts September 26, 2006 1:38 p.m.

One of two of my fingers (insides and tips) sometimes become bruised and swollen by even slight pressure (opening door, etc.). It starts with a painful burning sensation and is followed by purplish discoloration and some swelling. I am 53. This has been going on for 5 years. Sometime, it affects my feet as well.

This can be caused by a dietary issue if you are not getting enough iron and can be anemic as well as a circulation issue that is allowing for improper blood flow within your blood stream to the extremities that can cause these symptoms as well. You should start by taking a daily multi-vitamin with iron and eat some high protein and iron rich foods as well as having some bloodwork performed to determine if the protein and iron levels in your body are at their correct levels.
