I have been having problems with weird sensations in my skin. The area that it occurred is my front left thigh. After a day, it traveled under my belly button, then to my right hip and part of my right front thigh. It is very sensitive to heat and cold, and I am having troubles with weakness in that area. While I am at work, it gets pretty bad to where I have to try hard to move my leg, and almost have to swing it to move it. I am also very fatigued all of the time. I get approx. 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night. I am not over weight. I am 24 years old. I am having a miscarriage, however, I have had these types of sensations in the past. They usually go away after a few days, however, each time they are worse and much more bothersome. It aches so bad, is there anything that I can do? I am so desperate! I do not have health insurance and I am worried that this may be something serious....

I am worried this could be something more serious as well. The types of symptoms that you are experiencing can be caused by Multiple Sclerosis. I reccomend that you see a doctor right away as there is treatment and the sooner you get help the better your recovery will be. Please see a doctor right away. If you do not have health insurance go to a clinic or a catholic hospital emergency department many times they will reduce the cost or even see you for free if you have no money or insurance. I am sorry to give you this news and I may be incorrect but I am concerned and think you should be evaluated right away.

Sincerely, Jennifer. I hope my answer helped you. If it did please be sure to give me a good rating. If it did not please contact me as I would be happy to help you further.

Reply to Jennifer PA-C's Post: Hi there Jennifer, thank you so much for your opinion. There was a small part of me thinking that it could possibly be that, but my best friend was diagnosed with MS almost 5 years ago...and I thought that there was no way in the world that this could happen to me as well. My symptoms are nowhere near as bad as hers...but when she was diagnosed, I read up on it so that I could better understand what was going on with her. And I do know that symptom can be tremendously different from person to person. Just another thing before we cut this off and I say my thanks, this sensation is not always in the same spots....sometimes it travels down the back of my leg from my buttocks to my heal that is about three to four inches wide...I always thought that I was just having problems with my siatica because this all kind of started when I was pregnant with my first child about a year and a half ago. The one thing about it is whenever cold touches that spot when I am experiencing this it feels like it is burning my skin....heat is not quite as sensitive...but it still bothers it. I have also been experiencing more headaches lately.      Also...what kind of tests would the have to do to determine this? I'm really nervous...and my partner always shrugs it off like it is nothing. He doesn't think that I sould get this checked out at all.... If you could just clear all this up for me that would be great. Thank you for your time!

The symptoms could also be related to your sciatic nerve, this is something that would become more inflamed with weight gain, such as pregnancy and can flare up every now and again. The sciatic nerve exits out through lower vertebrae in back and can cause pain down to the heel or foot.
M.S. is typically diagnosed by a neurologist with an MRI of the brain and cervical spine with gadilinum and also a lumbar puncture.
An EMG is a nerve conduction test that can determine if this is likely something less concerning such as sciatica or more concerning like a central cause as M.S.
Feel free to ask more questions if you have them.
Sometimes just starting with a visit to a doc and having them perform a physical and take a history can alleviate a lot of stress. Like I said this may not be M.S. but because you have recurring symptoms and you are anxious regarding this your best bet is to see someone even if just to alleviate your anxieties.

Sincerely, Jennifer. I hope my answer helped you. If it did please be sure to give me a good rating. If it did not please contact me as I would be happy to help you further.
