Sent to Health Experts October 03, 2006 10:58 a.m.

My husband has had several small strokes. He now has tremors in his side that was affected by the stroke. These seem to be getting worse and I can't get an answer from a doctor as to what I shoudl do or where I should go with him to get some relief from the tremors as they are becoming debilitating. He has also had surgery in recent years for a pinched nerve in his back ( disc 4 & 5) so this might be a part of that.

Optional Information:
Male , Age: 64

Already Tried:
A MRI which showed nothing unusual I was told. He is taking Neurotin 300 mg. 3 times a day and has been for 4 years. He is also bipolar.

Hi

Thank you for your question

It is clearly a difficult situation that your husband is in.

Can you tell me if his symptoms are constant or intermittent?
If intermittent can you tell me if there's anything that aggravates them or brings them on?

They are intermittent and seems like excercise of any kind, even just walking to the bathroom, may aggrevate it. It makes him so tense that then his muscles get sore and he gets anxious from all the jerking.

Thankyou.

Has he tried any medication for it?

He is taking 300 mg. of Neurotin 3 times a day. Also he is taking 1mg. of Ativan 4 times a day. At first the Ativan seemed to help but now that isn't working.

Hi

I'd suggest that he try a beta-blocker, such as propranolol or atenolol, this type of mediaction is often helpful.

How is he when using that side for fine movements - like eating and drinking?

He can eat or drink but he is clumsy and drops a lot. Sometimes he can eat just fine.
