I am 34 years old. I am a black male. Once upon a time, I was able to enjoy a couple (2) cups of coffee with my wife. I am now unable to drink two cups without the feeling of gagging or actually partially vomitting. I am unable to do sit ups as intense as I before. If I do too many situps, vomitting or gagging ensues. When I drink water, my stomach appears to calm down. --There was a brief period (2 weeks, where I was taking advil 3x daily for knee soarness) back in June 06.

What does it sound like is going on?

Its possible you have a hiatus hernia, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease or the beginnings of a stomach ulcer.

Diagnosis will depend on an endoscopy, however starting treatment such as lansoprazole or omeprazole should start to calm your symptoms down. You will need to avoid ibuprofen and other NSAIDS in the future, and for the moment I would cut down on coffee and alcohol. Eat small but regular meals and avoid positional exercises such as situps until we have a clear diagnosis. You may also find that bending over can give you a burning sensation in the chest too.

What is a hiatus hernia? What is a lanaoprazole or omenprazole? Interestingly, a Corona beer does not bother me. Do you mean cut down on coffee and alcohol or quit? Are these potential problems that you itemized permanent or temporary until medically addressed?

Lansoprazole and omeprazole are two types of proton pump inhibitors which capsules or tablets that are used to reduce production of stomach acid. They reduce pain from acid, and allow the stomach to heal.

Hiatus hernia are usually a persistant problem, although the symptoms of pain and indigestion can be controlled by medication. Stomach ulcer can usually be cured with the appropriate treatment although you may always have a 'delicate' stomach,

While your symtoms are very bad then you need to avoid alcohol and coffee as much as possible as both of these drinks can irritate the stomach lining and make matters worse. If you can cut them out altogether then so much the better!

If you don't get treatment now then the symptoms may worsen and there is a risk of haemorrhage with a stomach ulcer so I would recommend seeing your family doctor or a gastrointestinal consultant.
