I went to the dr last nite for what i thought was a terrible yeast infection..he said he thinks it is trichomoniasis. i have never heard of it and when i came home and looked it up it appears as though i would have had to contracted it form my husband as i have only been with him for 7 years.. Does this mean he got it somwhere? I did read u could get it from wet towels and stuff but i dont think I got it that way. Can u please tell me does this mean he was with an infected person?? Would it have been recent?? I am really confused!! Thank you!

michlhan,

Trichomoniasis is caused by a parasite that can be passed from one person to another. The parasite is sexually transmitted through penis to vagina intercourse or vulva-to-vulva contact with an infected partner. Women can get the disease from infected men or women. While trichomoniasis is usually passed sexually, it may be picked up from contact with damp or moist objects such as towels, wet clothing, or a toilet seat, if the genital area gets in contact with these damp or moist objects. Symptoms usually appear in women within 5 to 28 days of exposure. Studies have shown that for women can experience no symptoms and have the disease for years while for men this is not the case.

michlhan,

It's possible that you got it from the non-sexual methods listed above. It is possible that your partner could have had it even before he knew you, and hasn't had any symptoms for some reason, or possible that he could have gotten it from non-sexual methods. According to studies women can harbor it for years, so this could also be the case.
