That is a list of medical issues!

Many patients run into the problem of not feeling that their physician is giving them adequate attention, or even taking their problems seriously enough. So this is not that uncommon.

But this does not mean that you should have to tolerate this - you just have to get another physician. Ask for copies of your medical records, and bring them with you to your first appointment with another provider. An internist or family physician would be a great place to start. And see how it goes - if you don't like that one, then see another one, and on and on, until you find one that you do like. Eventually, you will.

And tell them, explicitly, that you are worried about MS. They should be willing to tell you why they are convinced that it isn't MS, and they should be able to convince you too.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need anything else - Dr. Fay

Reply to Jonathan Fay, M.D.'s Post: aRE YOU SAYING THAT IF i TELL A dR. ABOUT THESE SYMPYOMS THAT THEY WILL JUST TELL ME NO, THAT IF I MENTION MY FEAR OF HAVING MS THAT THEY WILL JUST TELL ME "OF COURSE YOU DON'T"?
MY CHEST PAINS WERE IGNORED FOR YEARS, BEFORE MY DR. GAVE ME ADDERAL, AFTER 4 DAYS OF TAKING THAT I HAD INCREASING CHEST PAIN, I WAS TOLD THAT MY HEART WAS VERY WEAK, INJECTION FACTOR WAS 25%, AND WAS GIVEN A SURVIVAL TIME OF 3-5 YEARS WITHOUT IMMEDIATE ATTENTION, 1 MONTH LATER I HAD MY ICD IMPLANTED. IT IS VERY HARD ESPECIALLY WHERE I LIVE AND W/MY MEDICAL HISTORY TO NOT BE LABELED AS A HYPOCHONDRIAC, THATS WHY I WENT SO LONG WITH ALL THE CHF SYMPTOMS W/O SEEING A DR. BECUZ I HAVE BEEN GIVEN A LABEL!
13 YEARS AGO I WAS YAKING MY KIDS TO THE DR. WHEN MY HEART RATE JUMPED UP TO 155 UNDER PERFECTLY CALM CONDITIONS, I WAS TAKEN TO ER AND WAS TOLD THAT I WAS IN AND OUT OF NORMAL SINUS RYHTM, WHEN I WENT TO A CARDIO SHE TOLD ME THAT THE SPIKE IN MY HEART RATE WAS PEFERECTLY NORMAL, AND PUT IN MY CHART THAT I WAS A PROBLEM PATIENT.

No, I am saying just the opposite - that if you tell a Dr. about your symptoms, and your concerns about having MS, that they should be able to tell you what testing has or hasn't been done that could rule in or rule out MS, and then they should be willing to follow up with that testing.

It seems like you have had problems before with not having problems diagnosed when they should have been, and you feel like you have been mistreated. I know I would feel the same way.

What I'm saying is that some physicians do a far better job than others about treating all of a patient's concerns (like your's about having MS) and helping patients understand why a diagnosis is or is not a consideration (like MS). If you meet with another physician, then they may be able to explain to you why MS is a potential or is not a potential diagnosis, and then what has to be done to follow-up.

Some docs are better than others, and you should see another one until you find one with whom you are happy. And you will be able to find one.

Does that help?

Absolutely - neurologists. And there are neurologists who primarily only treat patients with MS, and so they are very, very experienced with it.
