i recently had a pap smear test, this one as well as the one that i had last year came back positive. it seems that i have some sorts of warts, which iam tol were received form unprotected sex. i am a 58 year old widow of 10 years, i had only 2 encounters with men (unprotected sex) in a couple of weeks i will be having a biopsy of some of the tissue. ( submitted this information before i paid ) but must have become lost) questions... does this get reported to a health agency, or any other agency.? if they have caught this in time, will i be cured? how do i know for sure who gave this to me ( its got to be one of the 2 men , the first relationship lasted for 3 months, the second of 8 years, is there any other way that this can happen? can this be given to someone else without the proper protection?? i'm no longer in the 8 year relationship, and i have abstain from any time of intimatecy, if you could please answer my questions, as you can see i'm in dire need of some answers

The warts are likely being caused by HPV or Human Papillomavirus. This is a very common virus that is considered an STD because it is transmitted by skin to skin contact. I understand that this must have come as a suprise to you but the tricky thing about HPV is that it can lie dormant in the body for years and never cause any symptoms at all. I would not think that HPV would be reported since it is so common. Even with proper protection, you can still transmit HPV.

Since HPV is a virus, there is no cure. However, with regular pap smears and special procedures to remove the abnormal cells from your cervix, this can help to control it.
