i am 52 and doctor recommended that they be done, for stomach to look for hiatal hernia and just a reg colonoscopy for check up. they found 3 polyps and i do have the hernia. after the procedure 5 hour later i was in intense pain, was told by doc to head to emergency room to be checked for perforated colon, instead they found my stomach had stopped working, by that i mean it wasn't doing its squishing to move food down into colon, after about 12 hours it just started back up. They started to talk about putting a thing like pace maker to make it move.

Hello,

The condition you describe is known as Gastroparesis. This is a condition in which the stomach walls fail to push the food forward. It can occur due to failure of a part of the stomach wall (called the 'pacemaker') to initiate the contractions of the stomach walls.

The commmonest causes of gastroparesis are diabetes, surgery on the stomach or intestines, injuries, infections etc. In your case, it is probably as a reaction to the scope inserted into the stomach.

Treatment can be done by medicines, diet changes, or by inserting an artificial pacemaker, depending on the severity of the condition.

I hope this helps.
