Hi fred768, welcome to JA. Consistent use of zolpidem, over an extended period of time, or at high doses can result in a physical dependence that results in withdrawal symptoms with abrupt discontinuation of the drug. These symptoms can include rapid heart rate, muscle cramps, sweats, shaking, and even seizures. Your prescribing doctor should supervise the discontinuation of the drug to avoid withdrawal which can be dangerous. You should contact your doctor immediately to discuss a plan to discontinue this medication safely. Best wishes, Christy
