Hello,
You are quite right in your diagnosis that what you are going through is permenopause. Irregular periods with spotting on and off is common.
But the smell indicates that you have a vaginal infection. It is likely that you have a psotmenopusal vaginitis with yeast or bacterial infection.
Since you are in permenopause, the estrogen level is likely to be low. But what could be causing the discharge is a condition known as atrophic vaginitis or postmenopausal vaginitis together with cervical erosion. This condition usually occurs when the vaginal walls thin out due to low estrogen level. A reactive inflammation sets in in both the cerix and the vagina and you may get the pinkish discharge which you now have.
Yeast infection readily occurs in atrophic vaginitis. The treatment of atrophic vaginitis is Vaginal estrogen cream.
But what is worrying is that you are spotting. Spotting does occur in atrophic vaginitis. But it also occurs in more serious conditions like cervical growths.
You still need to get a thorough evaluation. A blood test for the level of FSH and estrogen in your blood, a vaginal swab to identify whether you have a bacterial or yeast infection and an ultrasound to check your uterus.
Postmenopausal or perimenopausal spotting can be a sign of a serious condition and should be treated at the earliest.
I hope this helps.
