i have had a really sore throat for 4 days now. i was on zithromax and now switched to ampicillin my dr said my throat is extremely inflamed but all he said to do was gargle salt water and take the antibiotic. is there anything else i can do to get relief? i cant eat it hurts to drink and i cant sleep at night? please help?

Hi, you can continue with the antibiotic, and warm saline gargle. You may take warm tea with honey and also increase yourliquid intake, use a humidifier or steamer in your bedroom to moisten the throat and reduce the irritation, take pain relievers like tylenol or ibuprofen for throat pain. Read here for home remedies. Continue taking lozengeslike sucret.
Some throat infections like mononucleosis which causes enlarged tonsills is very resistent and may not respond to antibiotics also.
