I have gargeled with water after every use and I do take Mycostatin to clear the thrus, but in the long run that is not a permanent sollution.

Thank you so much for your answer, it is very helpful as I am danish and living in spain I do not always have the ability to explain to my doctors what it is I want (as in a change of medication).your answer also gave me information I was unaware of, I had no idea that seretide is actually steroids. I have been batteling to lose weight after my stay in hospital here where I did a 30 day steroid treatment starting out with 30 mg and then lowering the dose every week.I gained 9 kg in that month and are still batteling to lose them again. the seretide is the 50/500 mg, and I have to take it twice in the morning and twice at night, can that actually have an effect on my weight as people tell me or is that an old wives tale?

You're quite welcome!

Yes, Seretide is a combination inhaler and does contain fluticasone, a potent inhaled steroid.

This can cause thrush.

Here's a link with a discussion about oral steroids, the doses, and thrush:

http://www.webmd.com/asthma/guide/asthma_control_with_anti-inflammatory-drugs

One thing I can tell you is that the oral steroids are MUCH, MUCH more powerful than the inhaled ones. You could sit there and inhale steroids all day and not even come close to the doses you get from the oral ones.

Do not worry too much about the inhaled ones. If you were on oral ones for all that time, your poor body is still doing battle with them. This phase will pass, and you will lose weight. And yes, the oral doses of steroid will put all kinds of weight on you and make you so hungry you can barely control yourself.

But again, if you still have problems with thrush, you can ask about the lower doses of inhaled steroids and if they're appropriate for you. The main thing is, you want to control your asthma and prevent further lung problems.

But you do need to treat the yeast that you now undoubtedly have from the oral steroids. Candida and yeast just love oral steroids and they grow like wildfire in a woman who is taking them. Get aggressive with the yeast and your thrush problem will solve itself.

I have a couple of things to recommend here.

First, your adrenal glands could probably use some help now that you're off oral steroids. Get some ADHS, a great adrenal supplement made by Biotics Research, and begin taking two, three times daily. You can buy these online or from a good chiropractor or naturopathic practitioner. Try www.spinelife.com.

Also, start the probiotics right away. Good brands can be gotten online or at a good health food store.

To kill the yeast, try some ADP, which is a form of oregano, which is a great candida killer. This is also made by Biotics Research and you can get it from spinelife or just google it for best price. Take one, three times daily...and you may have some die-off reaction, so if you do not feel well, after a few days, stop it or reduce the dose.

Also, your diet is VERY important. Stop all sugars and refined carbohydrates. Don't drink alcohol for awhile, at least. Focus on lean protein, non-starchy veggies, whole grains, NO dairy, monounsaturated and a bit of saturated (but no trans) fats, and one piece of fruit a day. It's tough, but it's worth it. You'll start to see weight come off right away. Also, drink plenty of water.

Recovering from steroid use can be tough...Lord knows I went through it once.

But you will recover.

I hope this is helpful. Feel better soon!
