Sounds like you have the typical viral infection. Since it's viral antibiotics won't help. If you have a fever and may end up seeing white spots on the back of the throat then you need an antibiotic.

At this point, make sure you drink plenty of fluid, Gargle with salt water several times a day. You can also suck on hard candy or throat lozenges, which can help sooth your throat as well. A cool-mist vaporizer or humidifier as well, along with Ibuprofen or Tylenol as well.

If you don't feel it is typical "sore throat" related. It is possible it could be Acid Reflux as well. Which if that is the case, you could try Pepcid, or any other antacid and see if that may helps as well.

Hope this helps.

I dont and didn't have any hearburn, which is said to cause acid reflux. I can't find any information on the signs or type of pain or burning I had.

Then if that is not the case, I would go back to it being a basic sore throat.. Which can be anywhere from a day to 10 days to being sore. It just depends on what type of viral infection you may have and along with your own immune system as well. Are you still having the pain? If so, then at this point follow the above as to how to cause relief.

Hope this helps

Reply to Lindie's Post: Sorry but I don't have a sore throat. It was something that was a quick onset and then by morning it was gone. But it was very painful while it lasted that duration. Like I said it was like a fire in my throat and water didn't do anything to put out the fire.
