Over the past 6 months I have had four incidents where I have choked on my saliva , coughed and then my throat closes up and I cannot pass any air . The incidences last for abou 90seconds to two minutes, what could be causing this?

suppressing the cough and trying to stay calm until my throat opens up again

most likely an allergic reaction to which you are having a minor reaction, have you seen you md yet, that would be my next call, a swallowing evaluation would be a good idea as well

I spoke to my allergist doctor and he asked if I had acid reflux. I do and I am taking Nexium, he said it sounds like vocal chord spasms and this often happens with acid reflux. I will be seeing my internist.
