Hello

You might want to go to the doctor to get a throat culture to rule out strep throat.

If you do test positive you will need a course of antibiotics to clear it up.

That being said, there are several viruses floating around this winter where a severe sore throat is a symptom. Since they are viral, antibiotics won't help, and they will run their course. Your doctor may opt to prescribe an antiviral medication to help you get over it faster.

In the mean time, be sure you are getting enough liquids. Try hot and cold and drink which ever is the most soothing to your throat. Try a spoon full of honey to sooth as well, and gargle with salt water.

Hope you are feeling better soon,

Kerry

He needs to seek medical attention tonight. If there isn't an urgent care in your area, take him to the ER.

It's probably a lung/throat infection or a virus. But since he is so uncomfortable, and there has been a fever, you need to find out if antibiotics are needed.
