ACCEPTED Check Mark

The swollen gland indicate she is fighting off an infection. Most sore throats are viral although a few very serious cases can occur with bacterial infection. My advice normally is to maintain treating the symptoms, plenty of fluids, eat ice-cream and frozen ice drinks to keep the throat cool.
Decongestant tablets will help the head cold symptoms and keeping up with the painkillers will keep her temperature down and relieve some throat pain.
If the sore throat persists for more than 5 days, she loses her voice completely or if her tonsils are covered in a white film then that is the time to pop down to her doctor.
I hope this helps. Sore throats usually resolve on their own without antibiotiocs but often precede cold symptoms which wilkl go on to last for another 5 - 7 days. Plenty of vitamin C and echinacea supplement will also help.

Regards
Pauline
