The majority of sore throats are caused by viral infections which will be self limiting withing 5 to 7 days. They are usually accompanied by a variety of symptoms including nasal and chest symptoms. Occasionally a secondary bacterial infection can occur leading to severe sore throat or chest infections. At the moment treatment is symptomatic with hot drinks, vitamin C, anti-inflammatory or analgesic lozenges or mouthwashes.

Drink plenty of water. Add in tylenol or ibuprofen for temperature, aches & pains. Add in a decongestant eg pseudoephedrine for nasal symptoms and consider trying a steam inhalation. Great for moistening the nose and throat.

Apart from that, if the sore throat persists for more than 5 days, pop and see your doctor then.

Regards
