You can wait to see their Doctor until regular office hours. Because of their age they should be evaluated but Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is self limiting and generally does not present an emergency. Dehydration is the #1 complication, so monitoring and encouraging fluids is essential. Give Tylenol or Motrin for fever and pain. They are extremely contagious at this stage so use good hand washing and isolate them from other children, elderly and immunocompromised.
Fever and discomfort caused by hand-foot-and-mouth disease usually improves in 3-4 days. Mouth and throat blisters clear up in about 7 days. The rash on the hands and feet commonly subsides within 10 days.
Good luck to you all!
