My husband had blood in his vomit and stools which were diarrhea. He's had 3 morphine shots, an X-ray that said everything looked fine....a CT scan which revealed two cysts on his liver, and an ultrasound on those cysts, which we haven't gotten the results of.. The dr had said one of the cysts were benign, but the other one concerned him.   But he said they were not the cause of the pain. What could be the cause of the pain. We've been told it's something "viral", but nothing was said about stopping it. And what could be concerning about the cysts?

Reply to Christy Hammond's Post: They haven't given us any blood test results yet, but they said in the Xray every thing looked normal and the CT scan just showed the cysts. They took 5 vials of blood when they drew it. I don't know if they've tested for Hep yet.

Hi,
I am a physician, and given the fact that christy is not online at present, I would like to assist in answering your question.
I would agree that the liver cysts are probably incidental findings with no specific relevance to your husbands present problems.
The cause of your husband's vomiting blood the possibilities include the following....
  • Excessive retching
  • peptic ulcer
  • gastritis/ esophagitis
  • esophageal varices (duye to chronic liver disease- not cysts like you have described)
  • Other rare causes like tumors etc.
He needs a detailed evaluation with some more tests, possibly including endoscopy etc.
On the basis of these tests proper treatment should help hin get relief at the earliest.
