Mrs H Copeland,
The purpose of CPR is to restore circulation of oxygen-rich blood to the brain until normal function is restored.
The main aim of the recovery position is to protect the airway of an unconscious person, so that the person can breathe. It helps the person breathe and permits fluids to drain from the nose and throat so they are
not breathed in. The recovery position is also recommended for victims of drowning, and also for
victims of suspected poisoning (who are liable to become unconscious).
