About 90% of sore throats are usually viral in origin, to confirm strep (streptococcus bacteria) then you would need to see your doctor and request a bacterial culture or do a rapid strep test.
Also strep normally presents with swollen glands in the neck as a symptom.
If the swelling has gone down, then my advice for the moment is to traet symptomatically.
Anaesthetic throat spray or lozenge. A mouthwash/gargle containing chlorhexidine 0.2% as an antiseptic agent.
Tylenol or ibuprofen for temperature, headache etc
Ensure you are drinking plenty of fluids, things that slip down nicely in a sore throat include jello and ice cream.
If the white patches do not go, or the sore throat lasts for more than 5 days then see your family doctor, the only way to identify strep is the test. If strep is identified then you will need an appropriate antibiotic which will tackle strep.
