My son who is 2 1/2 years old, just got over

My son who is 2 1/2 years old, just got over tonsilitis and he will be getting his tonsils and anoids out in the next week or two. While he had this virus with his tonsils he had blisters in the inside of his mouth. The ear nose and throat doctor told me that this was normal, but today i noticed the gums on top of my son's front tooth is very swollen, so much so that it is starting to cover some of his front tooth. LEt me tell you this, a year ago when he was in daycare, he fell and cracked this tooth in half since then his tooth has started to turn colors slowly, this is the tooth, that now has the swelling on it. Should I be concerned. I called a dentist and they told me if his tooth was turning colors that means it is dead and should not be causing him any pain, but I am very concerned about the swelling that is in his gums on top of this dead tooth. Do you think this is concening his virus he just had or something else? PLEASE HELP
