My Mom has just been told that she has Throat and Lung ...

My Mom has just been told that she has Throat and Lung Cancer and that it is in her spit glands in her mouth but the Doctors aren't really doing anything, they have ordered a test for next week to run a light down her throat, my question is with being told this and the docs not acting quickly it's because there really isn't much hope for her survival of this is it?
